Rollicking good read Colin! I recall a time when sales colleague stood up to a sales director who was writing cheques with his ego (actually said this to his face in the car park and braced myself for the punch!). The strong in the sales team (those of us ahead of our number) stood up for the weak who were being bullied and ridiculed in front of colleagues. We insisted on being treated as professionals and it worked (mostly). Unfortunately, unless you have this sort of leverage (the organisation realises it needs you at least as much as you need them) this is hard to do.
In most organisations there are a group of people with inferred power since they know how to get things done or have a specific mastery which is key to others being able to do their work. These are the folks who resisted promotion to develop mastery. A rich vein of hope for decrapifying the workplace.
Yes, Colin. All of this!!
Excellent piece (and nice touch with the song titles too 🙂)!
The song titles thing started about 10 posts in. I try not to reuse any, so it’s taking longer to pick them now!
Thanks for the note too.
That’s impressive 😄👏🏻
