This is an excellent blog mate. It makes me so angry when I see these kinds of bonuses going to the big bosses. Especially when employees and customers alike are struggling with the current cost of living crisis. These bosses literally do not care. This exact thing is why I left working in corporate, WPP in particular. The behaviour sucks.
It's not just that they don't care, they aren't pretending to care any more. They act with impunity because there are no sanctions for their behaviour.
True. Which is even worse. In our time there was a veil of pretence. Now, not bothering. Which is odd considering the world of social media we live in. Way more likely to be outed if found out. What an odd world we live in. But ever the optimistic realist I live in hope that people like us will win out in the end mate.
At some point, we will stop believing the stories we are offered. We are each a butterfly wing quietly flapping. Enough flaps in unison will start a difference….
Our system drives people toward commodification. And whomever becomes a commodity is f-ed.
My solution is what I call "Career Leverage." I think leverage defines why some get paid more and some less. And I try to capture ways regular folks can create more leverage for themselves. It's not perfect and certainly not a system-wide solution, but in my experience, explains the gap.
